Why Reface Your Cabinets?

Refacing your cabinets is a cost-effective way to quickly change the look and feel of your kitchen or bathroom.

When your cabinet doors or drawers are peeling, broken, or have dated cathedral arches in them, you may want to do more than just painting your cabinets. You can modernize your kitchen or bathroom by simply replacing your doors and drawer fronts to new modern or contemporary styles. If your doors have external hinges, and are too thin to bore for concealed hinges, then you will need to look at new doors and drawer fronts. In addition to stylistic changes you can also change your crown molding for something bigger or more in style at the same time, to really give your kitchen or bathroom a facelift.

  • If you are planning to keep your countertops, or just want to do that at a later time, refacing your cabinets can allow you to change your cabinets without removing countertops like a cabinet replacement requires. The other benefit of refacing your cabinets is that it is less expensive than replacing your cabinets, and can allow you to allocate more “design dollars” to a nicer countertop, backsplash, sink, faucet, flooring, or new appliances.

  • You can change your doors or drawers to any style you desire. Whether you want shakers, slim shakers, slab, or raised panel, you can choose any species of natural wood or solid color.

  • Typically, for painted finishes, you can complete a kitchen or bathroom refacing in about a week. For natural wood finishes such as rift white oak, walnut, or hickory, you can reface your kitchen in about one to two weeks, depending on the size.

  • Each cabinet refacing projects consist of an off-site portion where we complete your doors and drawer fronts, and an on-site portion where we complete your cabinet boxes and frames. The on-site portion for your kitchen will typically require about two to three days where accessing your kitchen may not be possible. We make every effort to make to process and smooth as possible. When we work on your kitchen, we will move your refrigerator outside of the work area so it is still accessible. Your stove will be removed and covered up to protect it. If you have a built-in microwave, that will get covered up with tape and plastic to prevent any damage, and will limit your access to it. Once the on-site portion of the project is completed, we will move all the appliances back and you will have full use of your kitchen again, until we install your new doors and drawer fronts. Installation of your new doors and drawer fronts takes about 1-2 days depending on the size.

  • You have many options for your new doors or drawers, but the style of your doors may limit what type of material you can use. For slab doors in particular, you will need to use MDF (medium density fiberboard) or HDF (high density fiberboard). For shakers, slim shakers, or raised panel, you can choose between MDF, HDF, solid wood, or plywood construction.

  • Yes you can. For all refacing projects at Diamond Pro Finishes, soft-close hinges for your doors come standard. For soft-closing drawers, however, you may not be able to make them soft-close with your existing drawer boxes. When you change to soft-close drawer slides, they will cause your drawer boxes to sit higher. If there is not enough room with soft close drawer slides for your drawer box to move in and out without rubbing against the cabinet frame, then new drawer boxes will need to be sourced to make this possible.

  • Yes you can. If you are wanting to remove cabinets above your stove to install a new range hood, we can do that for you. If you’re wanting to add cabinets above your upper cabinets (also known as double-stack cabinets) we can do that for you. If you want to extend your island or add cabinets on the back of your peninsula, we can install those for you as well. If you’re looking to add a coffee or wine bar we can make that happen as well. The best part about adding cabinets during this process is that all of your cabinets will match.

  • If the water damage is contained to just a sink base cabinet, it is possible to replace the bottom panel in the box. If the water damage has spread to the side panels of the box, then it is only possible to replace the sink base cabinet if the countertops are coming off to be replaced. If the water damage has spread beyond the sink base cabinet, then it may require you to replace at least all of your base cabinets if mold is present. If there is fire damage to your cabinets, we can fix it as long as it is cosmetic. If the cabinets are severely burned, then we would need to replace them (typically just the upper cabinets are affected in small kitchen fires).

  • Refacing your cabinets can save you quite a bit of money compared to replacing your cabinets. When you add up the costs for plumbing disconnect/reconnect, demo & disposal, assembly & install, new countertops, faucets, and sinks that are required for a replacement, the cost-savings of refacing your kitchen or bathroom cabinets is quite stark.
